The *Summer Solstice* edition of Blog Popz officially launches June 21st, the first day of summer. Check back then to begin giving and receiving popz.
What are Blog Popz?
A blog award. A blogger recognition program. A virtual version of the lollipops you gave in school to friends and admirers. Each color represents a different theme. Get popz from authorized candy stores, receive them from admirers, and register your pop for a chance to win fantastic prizes for distributing and receiving the most popz.

Just looking at this little outfit makes me wish that Summer was here already. So, here's the deal: If you buy the lime monkey tee from Ruffle Butts, they will throw in the matching set of bloomers for $5. That's a good deal. understand the draw of a gazillion stuffed animals, but both of my girls like them and covet them whenever we go shopping. So, when I do on occasion feed the addiction to stuffed animals my girls have, I like to find animals that are different and out of the ordinary; stuffed animals that aren’t made from a cookie cutter mold. So, while browsing through products made using fair trade practices (i.e. paying workers a fair wage not just a minimum) I ran across Joobles, stuffed animals made by Fair Indigo.
Joobles are brightly colored and fun looking stuffed animals made out of organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes. So, not only do they support fair trade they are also environmentally and safety conscious. Cool. I had the opportunity to review Mooey the Cow…and he isn’t your average cow! Instead of the rather boring and staid black and white colors, Mooey is yellow with fuchsia splotches, and has aqua arms, legs, tail and horns. He (yes I am calling Mooey a boy, with three girls in the house my husband needs some reinforcements) is made out of a knitted material instead of the more usual fur type material, and is super huggable and soft. When I introduced him to Ellie she immediately grabbed him and started hugging him; always a sign that she likes something. She then tried to teach Eve how to rock him and sing “rock-a-bye” but abandoned that effort when Eve started to chew on him.I think that this is one of my favorite stuffed animals that the girls have; he is super soft, the colors are great and he is just different than all the others I have seen. Fair Indigo also makes different kind of animals, my other favorites are Jiffy the giraffe, Icy the penguin, and Pip the dog. And for those of you who are looking for a great gift how about giving the cool kid in your life a Joobles with sweater that matches? It might sounds a little corny, but it actually looks really cute.

I think cell phones, while a nuisance at times, are very important…why? 
Because for busy moms and dads with older kids, staying in touch should be and is a priority. Cell phones provide not only a safety net for kids when the need to get in touch with someone ASAP, but they also allow them their own measure of freedom and responsibility. Now, that being said, I think that a parent who provides their tween or teen with a cell phone while not monitoring or keeping track of what they are doing with it is just asking for $300 phone bills. So, what is the happy medium between giving the kids a phone and letting them use it however they want and not giving them a phone at all? Kajeet. Bless you…no no I didn’t just sneeze; it’s a company…Kajeet! It is a prepaid cell phone service that is made especially for kids, and allows the parents to have some measure of control over what their kiddos are doing (including how much time they spend talking).
I recently had the opportunity to try out Kajeet (using their Sanyo Katana II) and I think it is a great service. First you buy your phone, activate it and get your phone number…all of which are easy (and since I am saying this you know it must be true!) Once you get your phone all you need to do is unlock it (it took me 3 minutes) and add some money onto the online “wallet”, give it about 10-15 minutes and you are good to make your calls. The online managing is easy for parents, just log in and check what you child has been up to and who they have been calling…you can even block certain numbers. The plans that they provide are also very affordable and range from pay as you go to $30 a month which includes 300 minutes. Want to add something else? Kajeet also offers 1000 night and weekend minutes for $9.99 a month as well as a GPS service which can find your child whenever you want (the first month is free and then it is $9.99 after that).
I definitely think this service is the way to go for parents who have tweens or teens; by giving them a cell phone you help insure their safety and you promote independence and responsibility, but you also get to keep an eye out on what they are doing and who they are speaking with…a win win in my mind and hopefully yours!
